New Year, new start

First of all, to all of you who read my blog, I wish you a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year!
On the second day of the new year, many of us, CQ-ers, start with a new challenge and I am one of those. We do the TSTC from Sharon B. Her website is on my link list. That means we will practise a new stitch every Tuesday in 2007.
I have sewn a 20 inch block what has many seams to stitch on. Beside that I shall have a notebook. I am very curious what will happen.

backgrounds for Fairy tale RR

In the CQfor Newbies group we do a Round Robin after the new year. Every member has to sew her own scenery (background) for the story she will have on her block. Then the other members have to add the players and the stage properties ;-)

This is a background for the fairy tale 12 dancing princesses. When it get finished it will be a little wall quilt for my granddaughter who is 4 years old now. She loves the video were the Barbie doll plays one of the princesses. That's why I decided to sew that picture in the block.
This is the background for the story of the 101 dalmatians. When this get finished it will be a little wall quilt for my grandson who is 7 years now. He likes the story very much and the excitement of the adventures of the dogs and their puppies.

Have a nice Christmas

Dear blog readers, I like to wish you all a nice Christmas weekend.
Thank you all for the comments and the support on my blog.
It was a whole new experience for me.

This heart turned into a ornament which I have sent to my daughter in the Netherlands.

Does it hang in the tree now Yvonne?

Those brown eyes.

Those brown eyes is the title of this little heirloom quilt for our eldest daughter. It is her birthday present. She turned 42 last Saturday.

I took the quilt with me, although it wasn't finished then.

To be honest, I didn't like it, to give it away. I think I have put to much emotions in it.

But when my daughter unfolded the towel were it was wrapped in , tears came to her eyes.

Okay, that was it. Now I knew the quilt gets a good home!
The size is 19 inch square.
I have to explain the title, we all four in a row, have brown eyes.

the last three details

This is a photo of my grandmother ( 1893-1954) when she was about 20 years old. I made spiderweb roses and light blue silk flowers.
This is a photo of my mother ( 1918-1995) when she was about 20 years old. The piece of bobbin lace is made by her. She learned to make bobbin lace when she was young.
This is a photo of me ( 1942-? )when I was 20 years old.
You can click on the photos to enlarge them. Now I have to make the binding, quilt the border in the ditch, tie the centre block and add a sleeve on the back. In a few days you can see the whole quilt.

Those buttons are from my grandmothers button-box. They are all more than 60 years old.

On the left side silk ribbon flower buds.

Below a stitch with sequins and a piece of bobbin lace. On this photo I have made a chain stitch with perle thread. Lazy daisy stitch with floss. The beads are from a neck-less my mother wore when I was a child.
Here the zodiac sign Sagittarius. My grandmother, my mother and my eldest daughter were and is a Sagittarius. Do you get a clue what I am sewing?

details # 1

As I promised you , here are the first two details on the new block.

The bobbin-lace is made by me, several years ago. The time that I made bobbin-lace I made a lot of tryout pieces. I never trowed them away and now they come in use as embellishment on my CQ blocks. You can click on the photos to enlarge.

pincushion for Henny.

Here is an other pincushion I made for my dear friend Henny.
She lives in the Netherlands and she saves all the leftovers for me from the blouses she sews to herself. When I visited her last October, she also had 14 neckties for me, nice fabrics they have. I have pulled out the threads and have very nice pieces of silk from the ties.
The black fabric from the pincushion is also one of Henny's blouses.
It is a thank you gift.
I have added some pearls too because she is a pearl lover.

03 December 2006

Day and Night quilt.

Here is my RR day and night quilt.
It measures 80 cm. square.
31,5 inch.
I am very pleased with it.
Seven blocks made by other ladies and two by me.
I have tied the middle section and stitched the border in the ditch with the machine.

more details,day and night quilt

details from day and night blocks

Here are some details photos of the embroidery I have done on the seems.
I got 7 blocks from a RR and made 2 myself, now I am sewing them together by hand, because of all the little beads near the seams. And make crazy stitches on the seams of course.
The spider is made from a earring bead from my daughters earring and two little black beads.

28 November 2006

online again

After 9 days without a internet connection I had a lot of time to sew ;-))
I finished several hearts and this two blocks for a round robin quilt.
A few weeks ago I have received 7 finished blocks back from this RR and one naked one.
So I had to embellish that one myself, the one with the old dragonfly brooch.
The block with the spider is the 9th block to complete the square.
I am busy to put them together now and will post some details soon.

Vintage Hearts

The last days I have made some new hearts.
I call them "vintage" because of the old photo images I use.
I have the photos from internet and have printed them myself.
The first one is already gone to Maureen in Australia.

On November 10th. have our friends in the Netherlands their ruby ( 40 years ) wedding anniversary.
Congratulations Geertje and KlaasJan !!
I have made a mini wall-quilt to them.Four blocks, for every 10 year one.
Many hearts to tell the love between them and a "ruby" in the centre to remember this day.
I used 3 of my TT blocks and made a fourth to complete the set.
It measures 18.5" square ( 47x47 cm.)

Fairy # 4 and # 5

Here are fairy number four and five. The purple one is already spoken for by Renea.
Her favorite color is purple so the decision was easy for her.
There are more fairies on my sewing table, they come on this blog in a couple of days.

04 November 2006

Birthday gift

Today I have made a pincushion. It is a birthday gift to my secret birthday buddy ;-)
I found the pattern on Gerry's blog, thanks Gerry !
The roses are stem-stitch roses. I used 7mm silk ribbon.
I hope she likes it when she get it.

02 November 2006

The two other swap blocks

Here are the other two blocks which I had to embellish.
One pink/purple and one black/white.
Both ended on the 2nd place in their category. Also did the green/yellow.
The black/white one was difficult for me, I don't like black/white fabric.
Black and white are not colors in my opinion.
In a quilt they are the most difficult spots, they give a kind of hole in a quilt.
Except when the quilt is only black and white.

But I made the block B/W statisfying for me and I hope that Christy also will be happy with her block when she gets it.
The pink/purple block is sewn by Renea and she will receive that back.

01 November 2006

Voting is done....

Now the voting for the Half and Half blocks is finished, I can show the photos from the blocks I have embellished.
The meaning was, you had to sew a block f.e. half green, half yellow.
Then sent it to the swap-mom and she sent us the same amount of blocks back from other ladies.
I had to embellish those blocks and 2 more.
The embellishment has to be in the opposite color.
The pink/purple one won a prize for the best embellishment in the category pink/purple.
I am a proud member now ;-))

Fairy # 3

Here is the fairy I finished today.
The spiderweb is silver thread and the spider himself is made from 3 little beads.
The colors are a little darker in real.
I had to take the photo with flashlight indoors.

28 October 2006

Fairy's.....

In the CoH group where I am a member, the ladies are still asking for more hearts.
In the summer I ' ve printed a cotton sheet with fairy's.
Now I made them into hearts.
This are the first two.
The left one is already flewn away to Cobi in the Netherlands.
I hope I will have time tomorrow to embellish two more.

24 October 2006

The last two Betty's

For two weeks ago I got a request for another Betty Boop.
One of the lady's from the Chains of Hearts group would like to have one.
Those two images were still on my sewing table so I made them into hearts.
The lady has chosen Betty with the palmtree.
There is now one left with the SRE stemstitch roses. Is there a Betty Boop fan who likes to have the last one I made?

A quiltblock for a friend

A while ago I made this block for a quilt-friend as a thank you gift.
She has introduced me in a quilt-group in our village.
I appreciate that very much.
She also was the person who told me about quilt-groups on the net.
And that was a whole new world for me. As you now I am pretty much involved now ;-))
She introduced me also in a round robin, we have
8 women in this RR.
Every member has her own theme. Her theme is "Summertime when the living is easy....".
And she herself plays the saxophone.
I was able with help from a friendly person in the Netherlands to get the music from that song written for saxophone.
I made a 8 inch block for her to compare with her other blocks from the round robin.

Bird # 15

This bird is made on request.
It is for my friend Margreet in the Netherlands.
She likes the little bird that we have in our gardens during the winter.
She collect and sews hearts too.
I have got from her a very nice heart with crochet butterflies on it.
You can see it on my flickr page.

Lady's who have a blog about crazy quilting.
There are about 15 members now and they are all so skilled !
I feel honoured, thank you Susan for asking me.
The sign of the group is on my sidebar.
Enjoy looking on the members blogs !

Vic. Roses #4

This is the fourth block for the Victorian Roses wall quilt.
Again I have added a piece of bobbin-lace made by myself.
It is the lower right piece. On the photo you cannot see the colors right, but it is made from 3 colors DMC 80.
I have added beads and a ladybird button and one red pearl button.
The piece of lace on the top comes from my mothers sewing-box.
