New Year, new start

First of all, to all of you who read my blog, I wish you a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year!
On the second day of the new year, many of us, CQ-ers, start with a new challenge and I am one of those. We do the TSTC from Sharon B. Her website is on my link list. That means we will practise a new stitch every Tuesday in 2007.
I have sewn a 20 inch block what has many seams to stitch on. Beside that I shall have a notebook. I am very curious what will happen.

backgrounds for Fairy tale RR

In the CQfor Newbies group we do a Round Robin after the new year. Every member has to sew her own scenery (background) for the story she will have on her block. Then the other members have to add the players and the stage properties ;-)

This is a background for the fairy tale 12 dancing princesses. When it get finished it will be a little wall quilt for my granddaughter who is 4 years old now. She loves the video were the Barbie doll plays one of the princesses. That's why I decided to sew that picture in the block.
This is the background for the story of the 101 dalmatians. When this get finished it will be a little wall quilt for my grandson who is 7 years now. He likes the story very much and the excitement of the adventures of the dogs and their puppies.

This heart turned into a ornament which I have sent to my daughter in the Netherlands.

Those brown eyes.

Those brown eyes is the title of this little heirloom quilt for our eldest daughter. It is her birthday present. She turned 42 last Saturday.

I took the quilt with me, although it wasn't finished then.

To be honest, I didn't like it, to give it away. I think I have put to much emotions in it.

But when my daughter unfolded the towel were it was wrapped in , tears came to her eyes.

Okay, that was it. Now I knew the quilt gets a good home!

The size is 19 inch square.

I have to explain the title, we all four in a row, have brown eyes.

the last three details

This is a photo of my grandmother ( 1893-1954) when she was about 20 years old. I made spiderweb roses and light blue silk flowers.
This is a photo of my mother ( 1918-1995) when she was about 20 years old. The piece of bobbin lace is made by her. She learned to make bobbin lace when she was young.
This is a photo of me ( 1942-? )when I was 20 years old.
You can click on the photos to enlarge them. Now I have to make the binding, quilt the border in the ditch, tie the centre block and add a sleeve on the back. In a few days you can see the whole quilt.

More details

Those buttons are from my grandmothers button-box. They are all more than 60 years old.

On the left side silk ribbon flower buds.

Below a stitch with sequins and a piece of bobbin lace. On this photo I have made a chain stitch with perle thread. Lazy daisy stitch with floss. The beads are from a neck-less my mother wore when I was a child.
Here the zodiac sign Sagittarius. My grandmother, my mother and my eldest daughter were and is a Sagittarius. Do you get a clue what I am sewing?

As I promised you , here are the first two details on the new block.

The bobbin-lace is made by me, several years ago. The time that I made bobbin-lace I made a lot of tryout pieces. I never trowed them away and now they come in use as embellishment on my CQ blocks. You can click on the photos to enlarge.

New Block

I have pieced a new block. 14 inch square.

The whole thing is almost finished now, but you get the pictures in bits and pieces.

Fairy # 8 # 9 and # 10

Three more fairies for the swap-group COH.

The first one has already found a new home in the States.

The two blue ones are on the swap list.

Here are two new fairies for the swapgroup Chains of Hearts.
The prints from the fairies are printed by me, I found them on the net.

pincushion for Henny.

Here is an other pincushion I made for my dear friend Henny.
She lives in the Netherlands and she saves all the leftovers for me from the blouses she sews to herself. When I visited her last October, she also had 14 neckties for me, nice fabrics they have. I have pulled out the threads and have very nice pieces of silk from the ties.
The black fabric from the pincushion is also one of Henny's blouses.
It is a thank you gift.
I have added some pearls too because she is a pearl lover.

Day and Night quilt.

Here is my RR day and night quilt.

It measures 80 cm. square.

31,5 inch.

I am very pleased with it.

Seven blocks made by other ladies and two by me.

I have tied the middle section and stitched the border in the ditch with the machine.
