Just in time, TIF November

"This month the challenge is to use typography as inspiration for a piece. Many designers are inspired by letter forms in other words it is the forms of the letters and words themselves that they find visually stimulating. It is not using text, as in using a quote or a sentence that they find stimulating but the look of the letters as a design element. "
First i made a piece of needlefelt on the embellisher machine, using the colors from the November palette. I have added some angelina fibers for a sparkle. It is not good shown on the photo. I real it gives a very lively shine.
I looked ad the L and found out when i write it that it is dancing.
Also the L stands for Love, Life, Learn and Live.
Those 4 I have placed in a circle.
I was a very nice experience to make something very different from my other pieces and therefore it was a real Take It Further piece.
The size is 8 inch or 20 cm. square.

DYB-rr Block

Yesterday I have finished Wilma's block from the DYB-RR of the CQAW group.
Wilma's theme is 'under water' and she asked us to keep the seams in ton-sur-ton colors.
I have made coral from and old tea-dyed collar and a kind of anemone of two tatted rings.
A jellyfish from sequins and the two little fish in the upper left corner are from Maureen's baggie what I have got this past summer.
The block measures 15 cm. 6" square.

fabric postcard and atc

Above a fabric postcard made for a December swap in the Fibre_Fever group.
The card goes to Doreen in Australia. When I was sewing today I remembered Doreen's granddaughter Ebony who is collecting atc's.
I have made an atc from the same fabric as the pc for Ebony's collection.

received by new owners

Now I can show you things I have sent away lately. Above the shopping bag made from the purple block a few weeks ago. The bag is a birthday present for my cousin who has her 50st birthday on December 2nd.
Below a needlebook made for Hideko.
Hideko was my swapsister this year in a little group we both are a member of. We have sent each other 3 baggies with goodies for CQ and the last item was something handmade.
It has come to Japan now so I can put it on my blog.

DYB blocks came home

This is the result made from 6 DYB RR blocks. We did this DYB RR ( do your block round robin) in the CQI group.
I sewed those block in May and they came home just in time to make this beautiful wall-quilt of them.
I quilted this quilt by hand in the ditch around the blocks and between the green and red border. It was not that easy because of all the beads and buttons and the thickness of the material. CQ has often many layers in the seams. But I managed and not too bad I think.
In the blocks I did some knots.
A sleeve and a date on the back.
The blocks are embellished by Simone ( Italy) Cobi (the Netherlands) Lauri, Lyn and Leslie (did 2 blocks), all from the USA.
Ladies thank you very much, you all have done a wonderful job.
The size of the quilt is 68 x 51 cm or 26,5 x 20,25 inch.
It goes to our daughter and grandchildren.
Don't forget to click on the photo to see the details of the beautiful embroidery, bead-work and embellishments!

give away

The last days I have been very busy making a CQ block. The size is 30 x 36 cm. or 12 x 14 inch.

In July when we had the Norway gathering, Helinä brought with her this book and her tatting needles. We all could have a try and it was easier than I thought in the start.
A few weeks ago I ordered the book for myself and voila, here is my first try. I have started with crochet cotton and the thickest needle to see what I am doing. I will try to make little items for the CQ work.

A cosy afternoon

Yesterday I have had a cosy afternoon. My grandson ( 10 years old) was here and wanted to sew! At school on the craft lessons he once tried to use a sewing machine and he seems it was fun. And because his mother doesn't have one they came to our place yesterday after lunch.
He didn't know what to make so I asked him if he would like to sew a totebag to his mam.
Yes, he liked that idea. I cut up an old jeans and he found a lot of nice trims in granny's boxes! The two jeans pieces became very colorful in red, purple and gold. The favorite colors of his mother. He has sewn the whole totebag by himself except the last seam on the top were the handles come in between the lining and the outside of the bag. And proud he was!!
It was just ready before I had to cook a quick diner.
Sad enough we forgot to take a photo of the bag when it was ready.
He was só proud to give it to his mam and she was using the bag immediately and was very proud too!
