Collage "Africa".

The last two days I was busy to create a fabric collage. The inspiration came from the little card with the lion which came with a buy from Maya Waye. ( maiaart.etsy.com )
The collage is made from fabric and other things: paper ( the card), beads, hand stitching, stamp.
The background fabric is made from a 'rust' dyed piece of cotton what I made last summer.
The size is 12,5x 9,5 inch. 24x32 cm.
As always you can click on the photo to see it large.

Wendy's RR block

This is Wendy's Round Robin block. It came 'naked' in my house. I was the first person who had to work on this nice block. Wendy wrote in the little book: "this is one of a set of six and it will become a wall-hanging in my new house".
The fan in the middle spoke to me , so I "did" the fan.
The bow of organza ribbon is not sewn on because that will make it impossible for the three other ladies to work on this block.
I will send some silver glass beads along with the block so that Wendy when the block comes home can add the bow herself.
The block measures 12 inch, 30 cm square.
As always you can click on the photo to enlarge.

needlefelt postcards

During the weekend I made some needlefelt postcards. The first one is also on the blog:
The yarn is stitched up and the colors are opposites.
The second card has some organza pieces and beads.
The blue one below has some white silk and hand embroidery.
More cards can be seen on my Flickr page.

Lesson three, Pink Poppies.

For lesson three from Terri Stegmillers class I painted two pieces of cotton with acrylic paint.
The meaning was that I should make an abstract quilt from one piece this week.
But the cotton piece shouted to me : I AM A LANDSCAPE!
So, it became a landscape.
I have machine quilted and machine-and hand-embroidered and added bits and pieces to make it cheerful to look at. The bobbin-lace square is made by me years ago.
And the ( wood) cat was a brooch :-))
The two green bushes have been earclips.
the size is 15x11 inch. 38x28 cm.
I named the quilt "Pink poppies field".
You can click on the photo to see the details.

Surprise in my mailbox

A very nice surprise in my mailbox, a fabric postcard and a bookmark ,made by Inge ( Denmark). Inge won a give away postcard from me and she returned this piece of her fabric art! Thank you Inge, I appreciate it very much!

bits and pieces

When the Japan quilt was finished there were only a few bits and pieces left from the Japanese fabrics which I got from Hideko last year in my sister baggies.
I made 2 postcards from the leftovers in the same style as the quilt is.
They are for sale on the exhibition in March in a village nearby.
Keep looking on this blog for more news in a few weeks.

Wall-quilt finished

Do you remember the "Touch of Japan" blocks from the first week of January?
( just scroll down a bit)
Now the wall-quilt is finished, I gave it a beige/gold inner border and a anthracite ( dark grey) outer border and a few millimeters piping along the outside from the backing fabric.
Which is a feast on its own, I think.
I have hand quilted around the blocks and round the inner border.
The blocks are tied here and there.
The size is now 110x46 cm or 43x18 inch.
I am very happy with it, how it has turned out.
As always you can click on the photos to see them large.

Fabric book pages

This is the fabric-book page I have made for Barbara ( Germany). Barbara's theme is "the Universe". I was the first person who had to make a page for her, so what should better fit then the 'Big Bang' which started the universe according the scientists.
It is made from different materials and I added some angelina fiber, little sequins and swarovski crystals for the sparkle.
Below how the back looks. The size is 15 cm or 6 inch square. As always you can click on the photo to see it large.

At the same time Margreet in the Netherlands was working on a page for me. ( below)
My theme is "A cottage garden". She did a beautiful job and I am very happy with my first page. Twelve more to come from other members of the Fibre Fever group.

In my mailbox today

Above a 5 inch quiltie from Marga, made for a swap in the group: Unlimited Textiles.
The theme for this month is 'abstract'. The quiltie is painted fabric and some embroidery stitches and sequins and little glass beads. It looks very nice!
Marga also sent some extra fabric and some 'goodies'.
Thank you very much Marga!
Below an atc from Corryna from the Netherlands, we did a private swap.
Beautiful and very special.
Thanks Corryna!

mini quilt "summer".

This little wall-quilt is the result of lesson two from Terri Stegmiller's class I am doing at the moment. ( see the post below)
I used a batik butterfly as a focus point.
I made a large piece of batik with hot wax for about 30 years ago.
The batik was never used because the piece was to small for a blouse at the time I made it. Now I have cut out a butterfly.
The background is plain light creme cotton which I have painted ( stamped) with acrylic paint. It is free hand quilted by machine.
The size is 40,5 x 48,5 cm. 16x19,25 inch. My own design.
You can click on the photo to enlarge and see the details.

mini quilt

Last week I made this mini quilt 31x32,5 cm. 12,25x12,75 inch.
This is my own design.
It a partly by machine and partly by hand. The tulips and the chickens are appliqued by hand with the buttonhole stitch. The stem of the leaves is made from two yarn threads , couched down with perle 5, also the rick-rack is couched down with perle 5.
I do an online class:" Mixed-Media Collage for the Fiber Artist" from Terri Stegmiller and this is the result of lesson one.
Draw your design and use misty fuse to keep the applique in place. I had never used misty fuse before and it was very handy :)
Tomorrow lesson two comes in the mail, I am curious what that will be.

quiltie/canvas swap

This quiltie is made for a private swap with An from the Netherlands. A while ago she asked me if I would do a swap with her. I made a CQ-quiltie for her and she made an art canvas for me.
The quiltie is named "Spring blossom".
Sorry the photo is a bit dark, I had to take a photo with flash before I sent it away. I am very happy with this trade, the mix-media canvas is beautiful, I am a happy new owner :)
Both sizes are 20cm, 8 inch square.

Altered needlefelt

In a group 'Unlimited Textiles' we have done a UFO challenge in January. ( see the green-blue quiltie I did, a few weeks below)
Above the leftover piece of needlefelt which I sent to Val (GB). Below how it came back to me.
Val has cut up the piece first, painted it with blue and yellow , sewed it together again, add some bronze and cut out a postcard, an atc for my collection and 3 inchies to play with, she wrote.
It is very interesting to see what one can do with leftovers from a project.
I, myself should never thought of painting felt. It is nice to see so much possibilities in the mix media-world :)
